Gold's Gym Corporate Office Comments

I joined Gold's Gym online on June 1,2021. I though I was applying for a family membership for. Y husband and I. The charges were 35.21I reviewed my bank account on June 29, 2021 and noted that the charges increaed to $47.89 and was taken out on June 25, 2021. I called the gym and was told the fees were prorated to the 25th and there was no family plan. I requested cancellation for both myself and my husband. An email indicated it was approved but the charges were going to be taken out again on July 25, 2021 because I didn't give 30 days notice. I did give 30 days notice since I joined on the 1st, but the manager said no, it was 30 days from June 25th. I was extremely upset and the manager couldn't understand why. He talked over me the entire conversation. I asked him to provide a printed copy of the contract stating that it would be prorated to the 25th. He stated he could not do that, but neither can I . It has been extreme stressful, we find his behavior unprofessional and rude. The no contract contract is costing us an additional month charges. As new members we had no contact with the staff or manager, other than the instructors. Request cancellation effective immediately without additional charges.

Does Gold's Gym have a corporate policy for flying the American Flag? The gym at Roger's Ranch has flown a tattered American Flag for the past month or more. The manager is behind closed doors when I go to the gym six days a week. So 8 days ago, I left her a long note and I asked her to address the disrespect it shows to fly a tattered flag and to please refer to the Flag Act of 1942. The flag continues to fly - tatters and all. She has made no effort to address this with me. I do hope that you have a corporate policy to respect our flag and if your gym's choose to fly the flag they should ensure they do so respectfully. Thank you for addressing this issue.

I'm 70, a member in College Station for almost 20 years, see a trainer twice a week. I strongly object to your drops the mask requirement. I am not fully vaccinated, and only about 10% of my community is vaccinated. You are callously putting members' lives in danger, especially older members who are your most loyal customers

I recently joined the Middle Island New York Golds gym.
I have been going to gyms for over 50 years.
The reason for this email is that the face mask rules are not being followed or enforced. Some members don't even try and fake it.
No announcements , nothing. It is horrible! Please do something to rectify this situation.

I would like to file a complaint about how you franchises run their business. I was a member for the Elkridge Maryland Gold's gym for about 3 years. My membership dues were directly withdrawn from by bank account bi-weekly. As of March of this year everything with my account was fine. In April and May I noticed there was no withdrawal from my account. I called my Gym to ask why thinking it was because of the Covid virus. It turns out that was part of the reason the rest was that my gym went out of business. I was not informed in any way about the closure so when I spoke to the person at the Elkridge Gym I asked to cancel my membership. Fast forward to one week ago I received a Collections notice in the mail from a collection agency stating I owed Gold's gym $258.39. I call the agency to ask what was going on and I was told I have not paid my membership for 6 months. Mind you , earlier in this email I stated that my membership was directly withdrawn from my bank account. the agent informed me that the payment request game from your gym in Olney Maryland about 23 miles away from my home which was about 6 miles from the Elkridge Gym I joined. I explained I did not belong to the Onley gym and the person form the Olney gym said that the Elkridge Gym transferred my membership to the Onley Gym. This was done without my knowledge, approval or consent. The gym I joined is only a 5 minute drive from my house. This gym in Olney is a 45 to 60 minute drive from my house depending on traffic. This is totally unacceptable. If this is the way Gold's gym works by forcing a member to go to a different location without even notifying them, I think your cooperation needs some house cleaning. I settled with the collection agency yesterday 12/21/2020 so there was not blemish from this on my credit report. I just hope that this message to you from me helps change your policies in the future so no one else get ripped off like I did. And I assure you that I will not return nor endorse Gold's Gym ever in the future.

Put my account on hold. I called a week or two weeks before Dec. I asked if it was put on hold and if I'm going to get charged for anything. They told me it was put on hold and I'm not going to get charged for anything. Got charged December 1st. I called the gym that supposedly put it on hold. They said it was put on hold and the amount I got charged can "go towards January". I asked again, is my account on hold. They said it was. Fast forward to December 12, I get charged a annual fee! The gyms have not been opened for a year. So why are they taking advantage of the pandemic situation. Luckily I was able to cancel my gym. SMH.

Having trouble getting refund from ISLIP, NY golds. Cant get hokd if corporate fax cause it dont work! No one answers at their number...they only refer you to your local gym-where the problem started!!!!!

Just had over $100 taking out of my account for a $27 monthly gym fee. Mind you I have not been able to workout due to the pandemic. I called to try to cancel membership since I did sign up during a month to month special and they tell me no I signed up on a annual contract so I can't cancel. I tired explaining to them that was incorrect. They refused to listen and got smart mouth with me ( employee Austin at Round Rock Texas Hester Crossing location. And Ed from the same location obviously purposely misinformed me and put me on a annual contract instead of the month to month. Thanks a lot for robbing me.

Help! The only non-private Golds Gym closed down nearly me so there's no where to send my cancellation letter to or go in person to cancel. What are the backup options I can take to terminate my membership? A membership I can't even use since there are no gyms near me.

Posted by ZJ

It appears during this economical struggling times that Golds Gym has decided to price gouge since the gyms in NC are closed. The Golds Gym at the location below has increased their monthly membership fee to $75 which is utterly ridiculous!I tried calling Golds Gym corporate office number for answers but of course I couldn't reach anyone. Best believe a complaint will be filed with the Better Business Bureau...

My husband uses the Gold's Gym in Hackettstown, New Jersey. Numerous times he has complained about people not cleaning machines after use, but nothing seems to be done.
He isn't going back because of this happening.
Why can anyone listen to complaints especially when it concerns sanitary conditions ???

The Gold's Gym in San Antonio at Bulverde and 1604 is condoning extremely unsafe practices and the staff does not care the least. The uneducated staff continues to allow free weights to be thrown around the cardio area, which is obviously outside the free weight area, with members coming and going from a classroom directly in the area, members walking about the cardio area, and members walking through from the front using this area to access other areas of the gym. The individual doing the free weights throws them down from the highest point above the head. It does not take a scholar to figure out just how unsafe this is. Yet the staff, bewildering me beyond disbelief, does not make the individual move to the free weight area, their brain cannot put the two together and determine the unsafe condition...they let the unsafe practice continue. This is certainly not the first time, has happened on numerous occasions which now make it standard practice and allowable at this location. This is unbelievable. I will give the location one more opportunity to stop it next time it is observed, and if not, will begin a campaign to identify this location as extremely unsafe and one that only cares for the free weight members at the expense of all others. As I have observed this over the course of several weeks, I am still amazed that the staff has no clue, or just flat out does not care. It is crazy that a large corporation will sell itself out for the few to make a buck. The team and me are ready for our social media campaign, I hope Gold's preempts that and begins to take safety more importantly than it does now. Thankfully there are many other options available that we will begin a campaign to advertise if this continues. Your customers' safety should be of the utmost concern, why it's not is mind-boggling!

Extremely poor service at the Gold's Gym in Thousand Oaks, CA. Their managers Nichole and Dashawn were rude, irresponsible, aloft and simply don't care about what is going on in the gym and they do not make any attempts to help customers with legitimate concerns. No wonder Gold's Gym were reported as TERRIBLE in the Customer Service Ranking, #829 out of #950 during the review process.

Huge FAILS at Gold's Gym Rockville, MD
I have been a loyal paying member of Gold's Gym for over 10 years. I attend noon classes 5 days a week. I have never missed a payment or been late. I buy your shirts, towels, and products - two shirts just this week. I have never complained or written but that changed today.
For the second time this year, with no notice, classes were canceled in the gym for "meetings" in the exercise room. Sure enough, there were 20+ Golds employees (not from the local gym I belong to) set up with tables and chairs in the exercise room instead of the regularly scheduled body flow and CSX classes.
I was in the gym yesterday and NO notice was made of the cancelations for today. I was in every day this week and no notice. BUT when I arrived for the class today a note was on the counter. It is not logical that this meeting was an emergency meeting planned just this morning. Why would Golds not give me the courtesy, respect, and kindness AHEAD of time that they would BREAK my contract with them and again not hold a class that I paid for? HUGE fail Golds.
The exercise room is made for exercising. If you need to hold a meeting go to a facility made for such and don't fail to provide the service that members pay for!
This year in addition to holding 2 meeting in the exercise room and giving us NO notice before canceling classes, you also canceled 6 classes because no instructor showed - after your clients were there waiting. You also increased my rates!
This is unacceptable. Failure to give notice is not only disrespecting of your paying members schedule, time and needs but it violates the basic tenant of contracts and business!
As I search for a new gym, I am giving you NOTICE that I will no longer be a member of your gyms!
Shame on your poor customer relations, planning, and lack of respects for your paying and loyal customers.

I am greatly disappointed by the level of customer service offered by Gold's Gym. In December of 2014 I addressed a matter of double billing me for my membership from June 2014 through December of 2014. When I first spoke with a customer service rep, she said she would need to look into the matter. I called again two weeks later and was requested to send my June bank statement which I promptly faxed to the customer service department. I called again a week later and was told a check in the amount of 170.00 and change would be mailed to me. Great, I thought. The check never came. I've since spoken with another customer service rep, a guy this time, who said he would look into the matter and get back to me "by the end of his shift". He never has called.
I've been very patient with this situation and though it isn't a great deal of money (for me it is as I have lost my job since and have found another with a substantial salary cut) I would like this truly simple matter cleared up. My "nice" is gone. I live just outside Washington, D.C. and there are a number of Gold's gyms in the area. If this matter is not resolved soon, I will go to the local TV station that handles consumer complaints "on-air" and report this difficulty for the metro area to know and let the TV station resolve the matter for me; perhaps that will work.
Now with my new job, I am unable to call customer service during the week. I leave very early in the morning, do a 50 mile commute and get home long after customer service has shut down.
I'm very disappointed. Even though I have had all this trouble I still considered joining Gold's Gym in the town where I work; we get a discounted company membership but after all this . . .

I would like to express a concern, shared by many of my fellow customers, about a class registration policy which is scheduled to be implemented on March 1 at Gold's Gym, ***Olney, Maryland in Montgomery County and I believe at other regional branches. The policy will replace a customer friendly twenty-four hour pre-class call in class registration policy with a policy requiring all of those attending classes to pick up passes no earlier than one hour prior to class. In short, those with job and/or family responsibilities will be closed out of popular classes if they can only arrive a few minutes prior to class. This is blatantly unfair and discriminatory towards the many customers who do not have the luxury of arriving well prior to the class meeting time.
I am a long-term gym member taking six classes a week on average and when this policy was announced at a class the members were in an uproar. We were not consulted at all and a large number of members stated that it would be impossible for them due to job and family responsibilities and distance to get to the gym well ahead of time to pick up a pass.

An alternative to the new registration policy would be to either reestablish the previous convenient twenty-four hour pre-class call-in policy or to implement an on-line registration policy with the twenty-four hour time parameters supplemented my in-person registration. The latter approach would bring the Olney branch and others into the twenty-first century in their registration policy.

I love my classes which have wonderful teachers and I can affirm that the many devoted Gold's Gym customers here in Olney, Maryland and throughout the region would be deeply appreciative if the national or regional corporate offices would intervene to prevent this new policy from being implemented. Yes, customers like the rest of the human race have lives outside the gym and class registration policy should take this into account!

Thank you for receiving my comments!

I work out at Briargate Golds Gym and I have to say that the GM there Crystal Hardy has done nothing except make me and some other members feel very uncomfortable. Not only has people left that gym and gone to another one, but people have stopped being a member because of her. She handles situations very unprofessionally and does not keep her private life away from her job. I am ready to get out of my contract because of her as well as three other members. I would hope corporate cares enough about their company to solve this issue. That gym is full of drama.

My daughter was employed as a babysitter at the Gold's Gym location in St. Lucie West, Florida since June 2013. She was just terminated from her employment there with not so much as a warning as to why she was being terminated. The initial paperwork that was presented to her stated that a customer had "complained" that she was singling out her child in the babysitting room. Yet my daughter never received even a warning let alone a "write up" concerning the complaint. Then my daughter was told by her supervisor, Amy, that she was going to give her a second chance but upon review of her time stamps, she noticed that she had been late by a couple of minutes a few times. My daughter always showed up for work and even worked many days/hours when other employees could not. My daughter, being only 17 and still in high school, would ride her bike to and from the gym in order to be there for work. The other employees working in the babysitting area are constantly late and coming and going as they please without letting anyone know. My daughter was always present for her shifts and never left early. Now I just found out that her former supervisor, Amy, has now started talking to the replacement employee, that she had apparently already hired prior to terminating my daughter, and she is telling this "new" employee that my daughter was terminated because she would just come and go from the babysitting room and didn't work her shift. I would think that if that was the case, my daughter would have been written up for it but that was never the case. This location and its employees really need to be looked at closely and monitored regularly as this has apparently become commonplace for this location to just dispose of its employees at their will. My daughter believes that she was ultimately terminated due to her having to change her schedule since she is a diver at her high school and was not able to work during the weekday (she was only scheduled to work Wednesday evenings but was no longer able to due to her dive schedule). She gave Amy plenty of notice regarding it and even agreed to work the following 2 Wednesdays until a replacement was able to be found. On her normal Saturday shift following the 2 weeks, Amy allowed her to clock in and then called her into her office to terminate her. The employees at this location conduct themselves in a very unprofessional manner and are often seen fratenizing with other employees as well as members, many of them often being under the age of 18, just as my daughter was. My daughter was approached many times by many of the male staff who knew she was 17 but my daughter didn't want to make any "waves" because she needed the job so she never filed any complaints. Regardless, someone needs to take a closer look at this location and the way in which everyday business is conducted as this is not a conducive environment for young adults trying to work and attend school just the same. If there was such an issue regarding her schedule, then at the least, since she had been employed there since June 2013 (over a year), it should have been explained to her and she should have been afforded the opportunity to resign rather than to terminate her for reasons that I have yet to understand (based on an accusation which was not substantiated by no means and my daughter never received any written reprimand for). To just "terminate" someone because they don't fit into the scheduling, or it is just easier to hire someone else to work all of the days rather than having more employees, is more understandable and acceptable rather than the "lame" excuse that was provided to her.

I was an employee with Golds Gym. From the time I started til the time I left it was horrible. From my first day of training the girls did not want to train me. Any questions I had they always just said "ill show you later" but never did. I was an opener which meant I had to be there to open the gym at 4:45, but I always had to wait on the other girl to come in around the same time to turn the computers on so I could clock in, (because they would not give me the passwords to logon), which meant I was clocking in 15 minutes late every morning because everytime I asked about passwords I was told "ill show you later". I got written up for that and for not being able to make it to work because my car wouldn't start and no one would wake up at 4:30am to help me and because I didn't have someone to watch my daughter one morning at 4am I got fired with my 1yr old sitting in my lap. And guess what my so called SUPERVISER said to me... "Do you know how hard it is getting a 4 month old up and ready at 4am?" UMMM YES I DO BECASUE I HAVE A CHILD MYSELF DUMB ASS!! I will NEVER recommend GOLDS GYM to anyone, not for a job not for a gym. And I would never give them another dime! They are so money hungry they don't care about their members at all.

Today I spoke with Aaron Gunter, general manager of the Gold's gym The Fan in Richmond, VA about cancelling my membership because I moved out of the area. I moved 22 miles away (about 45min-1hr) commute in the city. Since I was 3 miles inside the 25 mile restriction set by the company, I was told that I would be forced to pay for the next YEAR AND A HALF for a membership that I was not going to use!! Aaron told me that the reason I wanted to cancel was because "I don't really want to come to Gold's" I offered to pay cancellation fees, whatever it took to get this taken care of, with no response but be on your way and you owe us almost a thousand dollars over the next 18 months. I work in customer service every single day and I know what it means to manage a business. Aaron is most certainly not equipped to be a manager and lacks the customer service necessary to run a business. He would not give me any contact information to talk to a customer service representative and told me there was no one else who could help me but him and his decision was final. I will never use Gold's gym and will recommend that everyone in my area find a different gym. It's not great to devalue your customers and squeeze them of every nickle and dime on the way out, hopefully someone from the customer service department will contact me and actually be able to help

This is a terrible corporation!!!!! I joined the gym in 2010 and went into the gym a few months later because I was moving out of town and needed to cancel my membership. According to there policy if you move you can cancel your membership. I went in there, filled out the paper and they made a copy of my new lease where I was moving. The payments stopped coming out of my bank account so I assumed that everything was taken care of just fine. WELL THEY DIDNT TAKE CARE OF IT!!! I recently got a copy of my credit report and seen that there was a 934 dollar bill on my credit report! I called the Golds gym that I joined to ask them about this. The lady transferred my call to the collection company and they said that they only can go by the contract and that the paper that I filled out when I moved was supposed to be mailed certified to the financial team. WHY DIDNT THEY TELL ME THAT WHEN I FILLED IT OUT INSTEAD OF TAKING THE FORM AND MY LEASE????? This needs to be corrected ASAP!!! This is not fair!! Please fix this on my credit!!!!

Dont Join This Gym! Ever! For Any Reason!!! They Will Take Advantage Of You!! You are never allowed to leave.

I am a 64 year old long time member of Gold's Gym in Montgomery, Alabama. I havn't visited the gym since November 2013. I was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer and I'm undergoing chemo and radiation treatments. In mid January 2014 I realized I hadn't cancelled my membership at Gold's Gym. I went in and filled out the paperwork and was told there is a 30 day charge before official cancellation so they would be taking out two more payments (I pay every 2 weeks) before they stop charging my credit card. I told them I hadn't used it in a while and becuase of lung cancer I can't use it in the future. They said to put that reason down on the form for cancellation and maybe corprate would give me a break. Well corporate didn't and I found out they they charged my credit card for another 30 days. Gold's Gym is a money hungry, greedy business that squezzes the last penny out of people. They have no compassion or humnanity when it comes to money. When I beat the cancer I will not join Gold's gym. I am also writing letters to the editor etc. letting the people know how greedy Golds Gym is.

I am currently a member of your gym located in Dundalk Maryland on Merritt Blv. I have an issue that happened to me on the morning of 1/31/14. I was approached by a Trainer while I was using a leg machine and talking to three members. This Trainer informed me he received a complaint that my laughter was interfering with another members concentration to work out.
This is the picture to take in at this time. There are probably 200 or better members in this club working out at this time, the music is so loud it is hard to talk to another member and hear each other. The dance class is going on in room right next to me. This Trainer is telling me I have to tone my laugh down it is more or less an infraction of the rules.
The rules: NO gym bags in the work out area, that is not clearly enforced!
No foul language in is to be used, that is not enforced!
No setting on a machine while talking on a phone stopping another member from using that machine. not enforced!
No singing out loud while listening to headphones interfering with the members around you. not enforced!
This member was respectful at all times but he also insulted and embarrassed me by stopping me in the middle of my workout and butting in between me and the other members I was talking to. Once done the Trainer started talking to one of members I was talking to to give her some advice on how to do a push up correctly all the time blocking me from doing my exercise, I felt like I was being dismissed in a very insulting manner.
I believe if this Trainer is so concerned about how other members are kept from getting a good workout he should take care of the rules that are broken every day in that club that do affect members ability to get a good workout a less about my laugh.
He was as I say respectful but very unprofessional to approach me on the floor and inform me of this complaint in front of other members. He should have ask me to see him after my workout to talk about this issue. I would have thought that one of the managers would be taking care of this issue and not a Trainer anyway if it was such an infraction.
I am 64yrs old, a Marine veteran and in the best shape of my life because of your club. I have been a member for about three years as you can see very upset about this matter.

So I brought my dad today to my gym, Gold's on Babcock. He will be moving here in a couple months and he wanted to check out the location although he is an Anytime Fitness member in Florida. When I arrived, I asked for a 3 day pass for my dad. They told me he had to pay because he did not live in San Antonio. I said, "you advertise 7 day passes in your print marketing and on your website!" They told me that special was for in-state only. I then proceeded to tell them he was moving here and wanted to see if this was the gym for him. The front desk guy doesn't make the rules so I asked for the GM Charlene Campos. She was working out so I went over to her and she was rude and unprofessional. She didn't care to ask me the circumstances of the matter, she didn't care whether or not she gained another customer or lost one no less, she also didn't seem to care that my father is a retired Vietnam Veteran who was shot in battle or the fact that he is a senior citizen. I know at least 2 people by name, that walk in that gym and don't pay a dollar to work out almost everyday and I have a membership I have been paying for years & they have the audacity to charge my father, a retired Vietnam Vet on a fixed income, to work out for 2 days and possibly join their gym in 2 months???? I am cancelling my membership tomorrow, I have already filed a BBB complaint, I will contact the Veteran's Administration tomorrow and post everywhere I can about this appalling display of customer service!!!!

I'm curious why the main Golds Gym site does not have a 'contact us' feature. Do you not want to know and have oversight over the various Golds gyms all over the country? I'm writing to complain about the Golds Gym in Salinas, CA. The place has been going steadily downhill, the owner has refused to return my calls. He raised the fees on everyone across the board with no notification. The place is filthy, broken equipment everywhere, classes have been reduced or cancelled, and not enough equipment for the classes that are running. Why is this allowed?

This is the second time in 2 weeks that my local Golds Gym at Park and Preston in Plano Texas was not open at 5:00 am in the last 2 weeks. It's not just a matter of being a few minutes late, but that the person opening doesn't show up. I work out at 5:00 AM 4 days a week with a trainer, so this is particularly annoying. It would seem that opening on time would be a minimal achievement for a gym.

Good afternoon: I wrote this comment to the corporate office after three (3) attempts to correct my monthly dues from 39.99 to 24.99 as agreed upon signing the contract with your representative (Tyson)in Semi-Valley, CA. location. The manager (Jilbert) promise the adjustment of our monthly dues to be corrected in time effective October 1, 2013 billing period. Unfortunately, when we check our bank account our monthly dues was over-billed. We are happy with your facility but it seems rediculous that after 3 attempts to correct the billing, there is still no resolution. Please help!
