I purchased an Advantium 120 microwave in Dec 2005 at a cost of over $700. The kitchen in which it is installed is a vacation home, and the appliance does not get heavy use. In 2010, the interior illumination light went out. I called GE service. The technician replaced the $7.75 light bulb, located in an area inaccessible to the consumer. My total bill for the visit was close to $150 for parts/labor and a $7.75 bulb. I was told the bulb was guaranteed for 5 years. Now, two years later, the bulb that was guaranteed for 5 <br /> years went out in less than 3. GE came again today; the serviceman did not have the necessary replacement bulb but said it could be ordered, and handed me an estimate for another visit once he had the bulb. The cost was close to $300! This is outrageous! I am expected to pay for another service call and a big labor charge which would have been unnecessary if the guaranteed part had not failed. GE sells an expensive microwave, then designs light bulbs inaccessible to consumers so that the simplest failure in operation cannot be remedied except by paying GE AGAIN to fix it. I will think twice about buying another GE product if this is the kind of consumer relations and service you want to maintain. I say buyer beware!
