I have noticed more complaints, more then usual. I believe I know why this is happing. years ago when I worked at pizza hut and I do mean years ago, we had a person that did the tables, by way of cleaning them and the same person would also do the dishes keeping them done up at all times, we also had a person that just did the salad bar, making sure everything was fresh, clean, and dated. Then we had of course the pizza makers, the one at the cash register, and then the severs.
Now I hear the servers are prepping the salads, that means washing all veggies, cutting all veggies, dating, and putting them in all the containers. They also have to wash all the dishes, take the calls, place orders from and on the PC, seat the customers, and cash them out if paying by cash, making only $2.50 or so to boot. Now I don't know about you all but this is just wrong. In other restaurants, doing salads and busting tables are done by other people making minimum wage not $2.50 and yet Pizza Hut is only paying the servers $2.50 for all of it. How in the world would anyone expect a person to stay alert and attentive to the customers if they are constantly checking to make sure the phones are being answered, orders are in the PC, salads are being kept up, dishes are being kept up not for $2.50 an hour and we all know tips are not that great in a lot of Pizza Huts sorry, but true.
Your servers need to only worry about making sure your customers are taken care off and not have to disappear to do dishes and make salads, from the time your customers comes in the server needs to be able to greet them, seat them, offer them their drinks, their food, and be at their call at any given time. There is nothing worse then to need something and you can't find your server cause they have to do someone else's work. Go back to the basics and hire the ones you truly need, a salad prep person, and a dish person. You would also be helping people that needs jobs.
Here is how I would run the shifts.
1, Salad prep be in early every morning, prep for the afternoon, have a second come in mid afternoon for the evening. This keeps the servers on the floor where they need to be at all times, keeping the area clean and inviting, and keeps them from having to work over time.
2, have 2 dish persons to do all pots, pans and dishes one in the morning and the other in the evening. This keep servers from having to work past their shifts.
3, have one cashier, again one in the morning and one in the evening he or she can do the bread sticks, the phone orders and PC even prep the drinks. again keeping the servers alert to the customers.
4, then you have your cooks accountable for making and prepping the items needed to make your pizza.
5, last but not least you have one person dedicated for delivery, ready to go at a seconds time.
6, wouldn't hurt if you had a QC person yes I said it a QC person other then a manager to keep track of where the problems are and getting them fixed asap. They are trained to spot the problems before the problems get bigger. This QC person could be someone that is in charge of 5 to 6 different Pizza Huts keeping them in check at all times.
Finally it has been my experience that when there is rushing around you have nothing but discord, which then you have cold pizza, unpleasant servers, long waiting time for your drinks, food and bill. messy salad bar, or an empty salad bar.
Pizza Hut once was a great place to go have a family meal, a place to undo, get together with friends laugh a little, don't let it go to waste just because you want to save some money. My experience is, that if your willing to spend the extra you will end up with extra. You want the place to be packed again with a lot less complaints, go back t the drawing board and re-hire those departments. Again hire at least for a while a QC person that knows what to look for, what steps to take to make your Pizza Hut the best Pizza place anyone can experience.
