I bought the XT1-LT42E tractor mid-September 2022. From the beginning, there was a squeal in the front of the machine. I figured that it was possibly some parts just breaking in, but the noise got worse. The seller, Home Depot, did not have a replacement, so it was up to me to have the problem fixed if I wanted to keep the machine. The nearest repair shop would charge $75 to pick up and return the new machine.
The squeal increased to a screech. So this week, I decided to try fixing the problem myself. I bought a grease gun, loaded it, and lubricated the front end. It took a whole 14-ounce cartridge to lube the machine at the four grease fittings. It is apparent that the tractor had never been lubricated at the factory before delivery. This exposes some really slipshod quality control by Cub Cadet and casts a bad image for the vendor, Home Depot.
The lubrication worked, and the squeal is now gone. I wonder, however, how long it will be before I need to have the front wheel bearings replaced due to Cub Cadet's error.
