I've had and still have bad experience with PETCO, the store located on Caminos De Los Coches in Carlsbad, CA. First and foremost their bad customer service and lack of caring for both pets and customers. I've spoken to the store mngr. multiple times to no avail. Alex is her name, but I've also spoken to a lady in the grooming dept, who they consider the manager, she is a young lady with red hair, totally unprofessional as well. I took my dog to be groomed awhile back and the mngr. told me the charges were going to be $60, ended up paying when I went to pick him up $75, only answer "I looked at the wrong screen" again, this was from the mngr herself. I have a standard poodle. Plus extra for cleaning his teeth. No apologies, nothing, basically you want your dog, this is what you need to pay. Second time yesterday, I only had my dog bathed this time, that's all, a young lady told me it was going to be $30 dollars which I find plenty for a simple bath, when I went to pick him up, the guy that cleaned my dog Cody, told me I owed $43, when I asked him why when I was told $30, he didn't know why I was told the wrong charge, but again, pay if you want your dog. This store is beyond unprofessional, Alex, Noel and the mngr. of the grooming dept, all three and I have to say worse of the three is a tie between Noel and the mngr in the grooming dept, should get a plaque on the wall NOT FOR EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH, but for the WORST uncaring employee of the month.
Today when I went to complain to Alex about my dog that first and foremost hasn't stopped itching all day and night since I picked him up from the store, and showed her how my dog was still dirty, he is a white poodle and should look white after bathing not still black, and his legs were yellowish color, a total mess, instead of her been understanding at least and compassionate about it all, she simply said "What do you want me to do" that is NOT how you start a conversation with a customer, a customer who by the way is constantly at your store, but regardless, first time customer or repeated customer is irrelevant, that is not how you talk to customers, period. All she said "I'll give you a refund" which of course I did except, but that was it, nothing else, and when I explained to her how customers should be treated since I've been in the business myself for over 30yrs, and how fed up I was of been treated rudely at her store every time I went there, she basically was fed up and said that first of all she doesn't get many complaints about her store, which isn't true, I could have told her about a dozen that I personally heard about people I know that stopped going and why they did, and if I wasn't happy with her store, I could take my business elsewhere. WOW!!!! Now that's a nice and professional way to treat a customer right? She wasn't compassionate toward my dog and the worst mngr. I've ever encountered. Her demeanor about it all was simply awful, and on top of it, she knew I was going to go see her at the store because I called her ahead of time to tell her I was going, and had me wait over 10 minutes, claiming that she was on an important call. The worst store and the worst customer service I've ever received. I wish I had the luxury like Alex had to tell some of my customers to go elsewhere if they didn't like the service I provided, boy would I have been simply happy to do so as they truly deserved to hear it, but, unlike Alex and Noel, I would have been fired. Times are changing, but one thing is for sure, without customers, Alex and Noel and the other mngr. and everyone else in the store, wouldn't have a job. How easy they forget it. No customers, no job. Unfortunately with a place like PETCO they don't care because they know that loosing some customers won't effect them, plenty more will come in. However, it's all word to mouth and with social media, I would say, be very careful. Treat your customers like humans, although it's called PETCO. My dog can't talk, but I can, and I won't stand for bad customer service no matter what the company is called. Now I have my poodle dirty, itching and according to Alex "Take your business elsewhere". This is what people get away with nowadays and have a title like mngr. How very sad.
